The Best of Intentions

New Years resolutions are the epitome of good intentions. It's an exciting time. It's the hope of a blank slate, a fresh start, a second chance to accomplish all the things that have been put off for someday. It's the ultimate Monday.

Each of these resolutions are made with the best of intentions. Intention is defined by Wikipedia as: "A mental state that represents a commitment to carrying out an action or actions in the future." This seems like a good thing right? Well, this is exactly where I think the plan starts to fall apart. Our intentions are just that, intent not action. We are giving ourselves permission not to act in the moment but to put actions off for the future.
Every time we put action off for "someday" instead of today, we are are allowing what could be to become what could have been. Now, I don't think anyone plans to fail or give up on the goals they set for themselves. Instead, I think they get so caught up in the hype of the result that they forget to be intentional about their intentions.
Intentional can be defined as: "done by design". Design can be defined as: "the creation of a plan". Therefore when we are intentional it is more than a mere thought but a plan put into action = "Done by design".
This year my resolution is to be more intentional about everything that I do, from being a Wife, a Mom, to health and my career. I have always been a really good procrastinator and I think this comes from not being intentional. My intentions were allowed to be thoughts that came and passed but never came to fruition. This year my someday is today and my action to put this all in motion is writing this blog.
Over the past year I was excited to start this blog. I had so much to say and share but somewhere along the way I lost my voice and then eventually didn't know how to pick it back up again. I am sure many of you can relate to this feeling. Don't let your best of intentions fail due to a lack of design. Be intentional and let your someday be today!
